People need more information about heartburn.I am going to talk about some treatments and some issues here. For example:1. Taking Nexium 1 hour before meals.2. Does Citrucel help with heartburn?3. What is this herb, Chinese bitter melon, that my colleague mentioned?4. Is raw potato juice really a treatment?5. Do people benefit from seeing traditional Chinese doctors for heartburn?6. How well does elevating the head of the bed work? I remember my grandfather doing it.7. Is it true that Gaviscon liquid helps more than antacid pills because it forms a liquid barrier to reflux?8. My colleague says that people that take antacids always get ulcers. How true is that? Or is that just hyperbole? He says that things like TUMS cause rebound hyperacidity, so use them rarely.9. And the knock on Tagamet (cimetidine) is that it will cause men to grow breasts - gynecomastia. How true is that? It is listed as a side effect in several sources.More to discuss. I am not recommending any of the treatments above. See your own doctor. I only advocate learning more than you know now.
